NWCCOG convenes economic development stakeholders in the region for the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade's (OEDIT) Blueprint Connects! Northwest Colorado Economic Development District (NWCEDD)

The Northwest Colorado Economic Development District (NWCEDD) is a new program of the Northwest Colorado Council of Governments, whose objective is to encourage collaboration among regional stakeholders in community and economic development, and gather supporting resources to fulfill its goal of enhancing community wealth.  The NWCEDD brings together the essential partners from both public and private sectors, to determine the most appropriate strategies to develop and sustain the vitality of the region, maintaining it as one of the best in the nation in which to live, work, play, and grow old.

What's New:

The first meeting of the NWCEDD was held on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at the Summit County Commons in Frisco, Colorado.  At the meeting, the articles of assocaition, bylaws, and board roster were approved.  A presentation was made by Frank Ohrtman, Communications Manager, Broadband Data & Development Program with the Governor's Office of Information Technology.  Mr. Ohrtnam talked about the formatin of Local Technology Planning Teams.

How can we grow community wealth?

By providing a collaborative forum and the resources necessary to work towards fulfilling the goals and objectives that were determined from public and private sector input in the creation of the region's Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy. Click to view the 2011 NWCCOG CEDS.

These goals are listed below:

  • Support and strengthen existing businesses by providing technical assistance and financing to create and retain jobs through sensible growth and expansion
  • Attract new businesses and industries to create vibrant, resilient economies by developing and promoting necessary infrastructure and business-friendly atmosphere
  • Focus on projects that bolster tourism by building collaborative, regional marketing efforts that will support existing intra-regional efforts and assisting in attraction of community-appropriate national and international events.
  • Create sustainable main street / downtown projects by identifying those communities that need to create gravity to their economic centers and assisting them in identifying all available resources for revitalization strategies.
  • Protect the natural environment, the region's most basic asset for health and vitality as well as tourism by assisting in obtaining funds for projects that preserve and protect open space, access to trails, rivers and other waterways and developing participatory and educational initiatives involving potential heritage, health and agri-tourism projects
  • Focus on supporting investment in core infrastructure and community resource improvements that will help expand local economies by taking an active role in providing a forum for developing access to affordable, reliable, efficient broadband in the region, by continuing to advocate for solutions to problems on I-70, and by assisting communities with funding leverage for needed infrastructure projects
  • Create and expand workforce development, training, and educational opportunities to focus on training and education programs across all economic sectors by supporting local workforce training efforts and engaging local higher educational institutions in projects that expand curriculum for new emerging industries as well as bring entrepreneurial training and education to the region
  • Focus on existing and renewable energy resources to include development of additional energy sources by exploring the development of economically feasible alternative energy sources and assisting communities identify and obtain funding to implement viable solutions

How Will the NWCEDD Operate?

The NWCEDD will operate as a program of NWCCOG. It will be governed by a board of directors made up of a combination of elected officials as well as representatives from the private sector, workforce sector, education sector, healthcare sector, resort sector, and economic development groups throughout the region.
