Doug Jones, Energy Program Manager

Doug answered a newspaper ad for Weatherization installer at NWCCOG in 1999 and was an insulation and air sealant tech before advancing through just about every role in the program–furnace tech, energy auditor, inspector, field supervisor before becoming director. Though he came to Colorado for his love of outdoor recreation from Pensylvania where he learned homebuilding from a master builder who did all phases of home construction, he started in the trades with an Associates degree in Architectural Technology. While Doug may have lost his passion for building custom homes, has remained at NWCCOG because he found “in the hard work of weatherization, I found quickly that like my grandmother and mother before me, I really enjoy helping people in need.”

Working closely with Energy Program Manager, Nate Speerstra who started at NWCCOG the same day as Doug, the two of them continue the basic focus of getting as much funding and value into the homes of those in need in Northwest Colorado by keeping overhead costs low. They continue to deliver energy savings services through the Weatherization Assistance Program, but because annual funding has been erratic, they have sought to broaden their suite of services by adding complimentary programs which also has had the added benefit of bringing in fee for service work. The Crisis Intervention Program, for one provides on-demand emergency repair or replacement of a home’s primary heating system. By operating mulitiple programs functioning together within the region, they find efficiencies that would not exist with any single program. Doug and Nate work to create a workplace for Energy employees that is team-oriented, service based.
